My Stop Motion Animation Sets....

My stop motion animation set backgrounds consist of, a comic book city (Gotham city from Batman), a screen shot from the film 'Signs' starring Mel Gibson and a extreme long shot of pride rock from walt Disney's animated film ' The Lion King'. These 3 sets are linked to my voice recording of my sister and I, we go through a range of stories that represent the similarities and differences between us.

'Gotham City'.
                                                                    'Signs - screen shot'.
                                                                     'The Lion King'.
Im still in the process of making foreground props and objects, to give my sets more life.

London trip..

Yesterday I went to the V&A in london and the natural history museum too, I enjoyed both places because both places had Things That represented the past or a place, like the V&A's exhibition was all about how a past theatre performance set was made which gave me ideas for my sets for my animation.

Cut out animation ...

I tested out cut out animation, inspired by Jan Svanksmajer new film, "surviving life", using baby footage of me and my sister has we were little, because it goes with my project. I literally printed the frames out from the film, cut them out so it left just the characters, and then took a photo each time after moving each cut out down the page, so it looked like we were walking.

I went to see this film at the Mac in Birmingham, and I found it very funny and crazy. The film had both reality which was shown has real footage and fantasy (Dreams)  which was made into an animation but even in the dream it cut back to real footage, which I thought was very good. Im going to use this technique in a film im going to make.

My Grayson Perry/ Stan Brakhage inspired box...

I decided to carry on with my work by making
a box, which lead on from my vase, inspired by Grayson Perry.
I created this box by drawing and using real photos of me and my twin sister, because I wanted a variety of different use of media and techniques. I decided to add stitching around the box for  personal effect.
On this side of the box, I have used a collage of comic book images to represent our likes today.
I have drawn this picture of me and my twin using a drawing pencil, and for the background I used a scoldering iron to stick together different fabrics and tissue paper together, because the colours relate back to my big inspiration throughout my work, Stan Brakhage.
On this piece I decided to use a photocopied image of me and my sister from when we were babies, and I also photocopied our favourite characters from Disney on to some fabric, and for the background I stuck down strips of tissue paper to represent stan Brakhage and his use of colour in his films.
On this side of the box, I left it quite plain and used only newspaper and bits of old books for the background, and drew the picture of us in Pencil, so the box did not look to over crowded.
                                                                 Top view of box.

Life Drawing 7.12.11

I loved making this vase inspired by Grayson Perry because it represents me and my twin through a time line and our likes.
I photocopied a picture of me and glued it on to the vase. I brought some glass paint and a black glass paint pen, and drew up the cartoons on top of some photocopied images. I then added more images and text representing me and my sister and added green vines around us to connect us together, then at the end I collaged a piece of comic book around me.

Inspiration...

I've already wrote about this vase but 'A walk in Bloomsbury' is a massive inspiration for me at the moment, because I'm creating a vase inspired by Grayson Perry and his childhood. I'm creating a vase based on my childhood with my Twin, Amy and how when we were little we were literally like clones, but now the times have passed and we have grown up, our identities and personalities are now unique and our own. I then will go on to creating boxes based on this vase and drawing from it, like the vase.
(I will post a picture of my vase when I'm finished)

The Joker animation...

This is what I made in a Photo shop work shop with one of my teachers, we learnt how to create a quick animation.

UCAS

After a 2 hour journey we finally arrived at the Manchester UCAS conference. The venue Gmex (MCCC) was incredibly large and overpowering. A few of us made our way around the venue, stopping at various stands and discussing our future educational choices. After speaking to a few advisors my first choice is now De montfort in Leicester, where I want to go and study either Animation or Game art design.
